About me

I was born in Germany in 1967. After I had finished school in 1986 the one thing I was certain about was that I wanted to do “something with books or language”. So I started off by attending a language school in Paris.

Susan Niessen Westcoast After that, I studied at Marburg University, Bonn University and the University of East Anglia in Norwich (UK) and did my Master’s Degree in English and German Literature and Psychology.

Having spent time as an intern at Rowohlt Verlag, a German publishing house in Hamburg, convinced me that a career in publishing would be just the right thing for me. In 1995, I started working as an editor at a children’s books publishing house in the south of Germany (Arena Verlag). Two years later I changed to Coppenrath Verlag, also a well-known publishing house in Germany.

In 2009 I started working as an independent free-lance author and editor providing services under contract to major German publishing firms. I continue to write my own books.
